Overview - Kuragehime 1-5

As most of the people that know me can attest I'm an unrepentantly rabid Mecha anime fan, with a mayor in Super Robots, and this season has given us shows like Star Driver, Super Robot Wars and Iron Man: The Anime. But sometimes one wants to try something different and thanks to Ed Sizemore, check out his blog here , I decided to take a look at Kuragehime AKA Jellyfish Princess, based on the manga by Akiko Higashimura.

This is the story of Tsukimi a girl who has recently moved to Tokyo, had all her illusions shattered by the big city and is living in a female dorm with a bunch of very unuortodox otaku girls that live a in almost a recluse existence , Tsukimi has a facination with Jellyfish and the other girls fascinate over trains, traditional dolls, older men and Romance of the Three Kingdoms and form a sisterhood that has sworn off men. But when a stylish woman helps her to save a miscared jellyfish at the petshop she gets more than she bargained for as this beautiful woman turns out to be a man....

Tsukimi tries to balance this new friendship, as our boy does the crossdressing thing as a sign of rebellion against his family and her relationship with the other apartment mates. The series is funny and surreal with a bit of britcom feel, the OP is a crazy collage of references to Hollywood movies and the Ed is charming. Tsukimi as a character has a touch of moe that is not bothersome. if the series continues like this, it is an easy recommendation for comedy fans.

You can watch it on Funimation's Video Portal
